TCM Celebrates the Movie Musical!

September 29, 2004

I’m a huge fan of musicals so it made me very happy to find out that Turner Classic Movies is celebrating the movie musical next month.

Every Tuesday and Wednesday, TCM will be airing nothing BUT musicals.

I’ve posted the schedule of musicals on my site and have highlighted those that are my favorites.

If you’ve never really given musicals a chance, I highly urge you to do so. No, they’re not ‘realistic,’ and no, they don’t tell you where the music is coming from and how they know the words. Just go with it – use your imagination and let the music do what it’s supposed to do: further the story, evoke an emotion or convey something that simple dialogue could never do.

We escaped….again

September 27, 2004

Well, Ivan didn’t get us, but Jeanne did. She took the same track that Frances did. Oy!

However, Jeanne moved much faster than Frances and we were only in the eyewall for about 4 hours instead of 8 or 9. Most of the trees were so damaged already that there wasn’t anything left to thrash, so our apartment complex simply has a few more branches to pick up. Our power was only out for a day and our dsl and cable were working when the power came back on.

I guess practice makes perfect with the utility people, eh?

Sigh, it’s so very depressing. We’re less than two months away from moving and we’re so stressed from the bad weather that I haven’t even really started getting things ready for the move. I’m not worried, though, I’m good at getting things together, even at the last minute.

Bye bye Frances….hello Ivan

I’ve always said that living in Florida sucks. Turns out I was wrong.

It blows…really hard.

We survived Frances and we even survived it without any damage done to our belongings. A tree came too damn close to crushing Chris’ car and we lost power for two days, but we were very lucky. We pulled through safely, the pets are still sane and we’re…well, I’m not sure we were ever completely sane.

Ivan is coming and as of right now, it looks to be heading for the west side of the state and maybe even further out in the gulf.

That’s good for us, but it doesn’t really make me feel any better. The west coast has already had a hurricane of it’s own (Charley) and I have friends in Texas so I don’t want it to go over there either.

Stupid hurricanes.

If you’re interested in what a hurricane can do, visit this page that I set up:
Sandpiper Cover (our apartment complex): After Frances (Link removed on 8/16/06 because the page is gone. You can see the pictures once I upload them to the Picture site. They’ll be in the August/September 2004 Albums)

I have a short list of things I like about Florida and one of those items is Banyan Trees. Our apartment complex was full of them. Unfortunately, they have shallow roots. Most of the Banyan trees are now uprooted and fallen over. The ones that are left are stripped of leaves and branches.

Brandi’s political/movie post of the day:

A new film is coming out on September 17, 2004. It’s a not-very-subtle stab at the Bush Administration and the official website is set up like a political candidate site. The film has an all-star cast and the candidate (‘Dim’ Dickie Pillager) is played by Chris Cooper, someone I have just recently begun to notice.

Check out the site. It’s sure to make you laugh or really piss you off.
